San Siro and surrounding area

Pianello del Lario

Pianello del Lario is an elongated little village on the western shore of Lake Como. The municipality with about 1,000 inhabitants belongs to the province of Como and is located about 35 kilometres northeast of the provincial capital.

The typical restaurants, trattorias and mountain agriturismo (farms with guest rooms) are partly located directly on Lake Como on the lakeside promenade. Pianello del Lario has a small harbour for sailing and motor boats on Lake Como and is a rather quiet place due to the tunnelled bypass. A visit to the church of San Martino, located directly on Lake Como, is recommended. The landing stage offers excursion possibilities to the south such as Menaggio, Varenna or to the north such as the abbey of Piona Bay.

In addition, there are some mountain villages above Pianello:

  • Camlago
  • Belmonte
  • Maggiana
  • Sant’Anna
  • Coslia
  • Saliana

The villages are all unspoilt, suitable for relaxing holidays with fascinating lake and mountain panoramas and offer rustici natural stone houses and quaint alleyways. Monte Bregagno, the highest mountain in the western framing of Lake Como, is close to the villages and offers many hiking and mountain biking trails.

Cremia on the western shore of Lake Como

Cremia is a picturesque lakeside and mountain village situated at the foot of Monte Bregagno, spread over several hamlets: Cremia includes San Vito on the lake, as well as Colceno, Ghiano, Motto, Pusgnano, Vignola, Semurano, Vezzedo, Cheis, Cadreglio and Samaino on the hillside.

The 15th century church of San Michele is located in the centre of town and is worth a visit at any time. In addition, a rustic mountain restaurant invites you to a cosy dinner. A hairdresser and a grocery shop cater for everyday needs.

Cremia is an ideal starting point for hikes and mountain bike tours on Lake Como.

San Vito

San Vito is a town on Lago di Como with a fishing port and weekly market. Here you will find shallow beaches and coves, some with sand, beach bars and play & sports facilities. Besides beach ball and badminton, San Vito is a popular surfing, kite surfing and sailing area with rental stations.

The beautiful shore promenade invites you to long walks all the way to the neighbouring villages. Idyllic restaurants and hotels round off the picturesque village.

The ancient 12th century church of San Vito e Modesto is located near the harbour of San Vito and is always worth a visit.

San Siro

San Siro consists of the small romantic lakeside towns of Santa Maria Rezzonico, Santa Maria and Acquaseria and is located on the upper lakeshore or at the foot of Monte Bregagno. The lakeside villages are almost continuously connected by a panoramic lakeside path for walking, jogging and cycling. There are always good places to stop for refreshments, kiosks and sports facilities.

The 13th-century castle of Castello di Rezzonico is in an enchanting location and encloses an area of more than 2,000 m² extending to the lakeshore. Unfortunately, the castle cannot be visited as it is privately owned. However, there is a rocky bathing beach below the castle that can be used.

Above San Siro is the mountain village of San Martino. Situated in a rural idyll, a piazza with the restaurant Locanda di San Martino invites you to linger. The road leading to the village ends at the village entrance.
