Sorico & Boschetto

Sorico is a former fishing village with a few restaurants. The village is situated on the Boschetto headland with Colico to the east and Gera Lario/Sorico to the west. The region is considered a green, sunny oasis away from the hustle and bustle and is part of the Pian di Spagna nature reserve.

Two delicious restaurants/pizzerias can be found near the beaches of Boschetto.

Lago di Mezzola

Lake Mezzola is part of the largest nature reserve in Lombardy and covers about 4 km². It lies to the north of Lake Como and is not considered suitable for bathing. However, the lake is ideal for small boat trips, as boats up to 20 hp (licence-free) are allowed.

Pian di Spagna

Pian di Spagna is a 1600-hectare plain in Lombardy. Apart from the picturesque scenery, the Pia di Spagna offers wonderful opportunities for hiking and cycling. Mantello

Mantello is a small commune in the province of Sondrio and is considered an ideal starting point for bicycle and mountain bike tours. The two churches of Santi Marco and Colombano e Gregorio are also worth a visit.

Dascio on Lake Mezzola - district of Sorico

Dascio is a hidden, old fishing village with little tourism. The village is an oasis for nature lovers and borders directly on the nature reserve with a magnificent view of the almost untouched lake and mountain landscape (bird watching area). There are also beautiful walking and cycling paths directly along the shore. Above, there are small villages that are ideal for mountain hikes and mountain bike tours.

The village can be reached via a beautiful road along the shore with little traffic.

Novate Mezzola on Lake Mezzola

Novate Mezzola is a small, tranquil village on the northern shore of Lake Mezzola and about 5 km north of Lake Como. The two lakes are connected by the Mera River. The steep rock faces with waterfalls on the outskirts of the village form a breathtaking backdrop. The village is an ideal starting point for great hiking tours in the valleys of Val Codera and Valle dei Ratti.

In Novate Mezzola you will find some shopping facilities, various restaurants, bars, a wine bar and an agriturismo with home-made fish dishes in the village.

Valtellina Valley

The Valtellina Valley is a holiday paradise for both active holidaymakers and those seeking peace and quiet.

The unspoilt nature is ideal for:

Cultural highlights in Chiavenna, Morbegno and Teglio:

  • Many sights and historic town centres
  • Botanical Garden “Paradiso” in Chiavenna

There are also many waterfalls (e.g. the waterfalls of Borgonuovo) and a particularly mild climate for fruit growing (apples, pears, cherries, plums and strawberries). Wine lovers should also taste the great wines (e.g. Grumello or Sassella) of the area. The beautiful hiking areas in a dreamlike mountain world as well as the many wellness offers provide highlights for every need.

Activities and Highlights

With the car:

  • From Bergell / Chiavenna in the direction of Lake Como or Bormio – Sondrio – Morbegno good transport connections to Lake Como through the valleys.
  • Beautiful lakeside road along the eastern shore (motorway in tunnel)

By train:

  • Panoramic train connects most towns on the eastern shore with Chiavenna, Sondrio and Milan
  • Very good fishing opportunities at Lake Mezzola
  • Nearest swimming in Sorico and Colico on Lake Como:
    • Several extensive and shallowly sloping beaches – some with sand
    • Colico towards the Adda River: Beautiful long beach north of the piazza and marina with large sunbathing area, kitesurfing school and hiking/biking trail to other beaches, partly sand, on the Adda tributary in the nature reserve of the Pian di Spagna
  • Extensive beach with sandbanks in Gera Lario at the small fishing and yacht harbour
    • Depending on the water level, exposed sandbanks, ideal for children
  • Small unspoilt beaches at Lake Mezzola partly only accessible by boat
  • Verceia / Lake Mezzola: Beautiful sports, play and leisure facilities with pool and harbour
  • In Dascio: Small boats and canoes
  • Lake Mezzola: boats with guide for family and group excursions with connection to popular agriturismo restaurant

Golf:

    • Near Sondrio: 9-hole course at Valtellina Golf Club (approx. 15 km).

By bike

    • Mantello: ideal starting point for bike and mountain bike tours
    • 17 km long cycle path along the Adda river to Lake Como and the bay of Piona
    • Cycle path along the Mera River from Dascio along the shore of Lake Como to Gera Lario
    • Numerous and varied mountain bike trails of varying difficulty in the Valtellina Valley

Sailing, Surfing & Kite

    • La Breva, south wind of the Lago: starts in the late morning, dies down in the early evening
    • Beaches suitable for wind and kite surfers in Gera Lario, on headland Boschetto and ‘Colico north of the marina with beach restaurant, bar and snack facilities, kite/surf school and surf hire
    • Surf and sailing school in Gera Lario and Boschetto

Hiking, Walking, Mountaineering & Climbing:

    • Walking and jogging routes along the Adda River to Lake Como
    • Numerous hiking trails in the Valtellina Valley
    • Picturesque lakeside path connects the villages on the west coast
      With few interruptions, you can stroll, jog or leisurely cycle about 18 km directly along the lakeshore from Sorico at the lake’s tip via Gera Lario, Domaso, Gravedona, Dongo, Musso via Pianello to Cremia.

Canoe & Rowing

    • Rafting or canoeing tours on the Adda River and the Mera River to Lago di Como
    • Canoeing and rowing on Lake Mezzola: untouched nature, impressive shores and rock faces

Horse riding

    • Well-organised riding areas with riding school and riding possibilities between Gera Lario and Colico

Tennis

    • Three tennis courts (hard and clay) in the surrounding villages on the Alto Lario.
