LABREVA Lake Como Holiday Destinations Colico and surrounding area
Colico is a small municipality in the province of Lecco and is located directly on Lake Como. Located just 76km above Milan, Colico is a popular destination for day trips.
The former fishing village is now a lively small town with several beaches, many restaurants, numerous shops and a large shopping centre. In addition, the community has a jetty, a marina and a railway station.
Colico, with its nearly 8,000 inhabitants, is the largest town on the upper part of Lake Como and lies at the foot of Monte Legnone, which at 2,609 metres is the highest mountain on Lake Como. The sun-drenched municipality guarantees long red-golden evenings and beautiful sunrises.
A visit to the old town centre and the Piazza Garibaldi directly on the lake is just as recommended as the scattered hamlets with villas, country houses, open fields and old farmsteads on the gently rising Montecchio hill.
Special highlights:
Olgiasca is a district of Colico and lies to the south of the town centre on a wildly romantic wooded peninsula with a wide view to the south. Olgiasca is home to the famous Piona Abbey and is a beautiful medieval village. It is also home to an insider beach that can only be reached on foot and is less crowded than other beaches in the area.
Piona Bay borders Colico to the south and is easily accessible by bike or on foot. The gently sloping beach with its sunbathing lawn invites you to linger. There is also a good agriturismo restaurant near the beach and a beach bar with tasty drinks. The beautiful panorama of lake and mountains framed by lots of green nature invites you to long walks along the lake.
Corenno Plinio is located on the eastern shore of Lake Como and is about 5 kilometres from Colico. The village is particularly picturesque, built directly on the lake on a rocky promontory. The castle ruins, medieval pavement, winding steep streets and a romantic lake access with bathing platform spread a very special flair and invite to be explored. The village square with marble tombs from the 4th century is also worth a visit.
There are several shallow beaches adjacent to the small village. A beautiful panoramic hiking trail connects Corenno Plinio from Colico to Varenna.
