LABREVA Holiday ideas Surfing at Lake Como
South of the Alps, Lake Como is considered a popular spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Compared to Lake Garda, Lake Como is still an “insider tip” and not as crowded. Due to the size of the lake, you also have plenty of space and reliable wind conditions from late morning.
We have many tips for surfing and the right holiday accommodations! Our holiday homes are located near the lake or directly on the lake, as an ideal starting point for your surfing holiday.

With an area of 146 km², Lake Como is one of the three largest lakes in Italy (Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore and Lake Como) and is easily recognisable by its Y-shape. The lake is completely enclosed by the mountains of the Alps. The lake is Europe’s deepest lake, about 50 km long and 4.4 km wide at its widest point. The lake is divided into four areas. Alto Lario” in the north, “Lecco” in the southeast, “Centro Lago” in the middle and “Como” in the southwest.
The Alto Lario area is home to the most popular spots for water sports on Lake Como. The reliable thermal winds in the north of Lake Como make it so popular, especially the Breva from the south, which reliably ventilates the lake from late morning onwards, ensures the best conditions for windsurfing on Lake Como.
In the morning, the Tivano wind blows from the north and develops its strongest force in the south.
In principle, surfing is allowed everywhere on the lake, but the most popular entry points are in the north of Lake Como in Colico and Gera Lario and on the western shore with Domaso to Cremia. This is where all water sports come together and a real hotspot for windsurfing is in Domaso.
Kitesurfers and windsurfers share the territory of the windy zone in the north, but they won’t get in each other’s way, there is plenty of space on this part of Lake Como.
Lake Como is also popular for kitesurfing because of the wind safety and plenty of space.
The top spots in the north of the lake offer the reliable Breva wind from midday onwards, usually of moderate strength, perfect for kitesurfing.
At the most important spots on Lake Como you will also find German-speaking VDWS kite schools offering instruction and equipment rental.
