Sport climbing and alpine climbing routes around Lecco on Lake Como
The town of Lecco on the south-eastern shore of Lake Como is one of the most traditional climbing centres in northern Italy.
Climbing greats such as Walter Bonatti trained here for their great goals in the Alps and the Himalayas. Due to the mild climate and low altitude, climbing on the rock faces in the region is possible practically all year round.
There are both sport climbing crags with easy and difficult routes, as well as impressive massifs such as the Corna di Medale, where climbing routes of up to 14 pitches can be found.
All in all, Lecco is a worthwhile alternative to the overcrowded climbing areas on Lake Garda.
Best season for climbing on Lake Como
For climbing on Lake Como, we recommend that you take a holiday in spring or autumn. You can basically climb all year round, but most areas are east to south facing and it can get very hot. If you do plan to go on a climbing holiday in the summer, it is best to use the morning and evening hours and go on a beach holiday or city break during the day.
