Hiking and cycling
A must-have for hikers and cyclists are the detailed 1:50,000 scale maps from KOMPASS. They are GPS-accurate, include mountain bike tours, and feature all mountain huts and shelters. Anyone vacationing at the northern tip of Lake Como and planning to visit the Valtellina region will need the Lake Como / Lake Lugano map as well as the Chiavenna / Val Bregaglia map. The Lecco / Valle Brembana map covers the arm of the lake near Lecco and the area east of it.
As an extra, the maps come with a small travel guide and insider tips, including descriptions of the villages and towns as well as the scenic attractions.
Even more detailed maps at a scale of 1:25,000 are available from Ingenia Editori. These maps can be purchased from a few retailers. Ordering online is more reliable, for example from www.mapfox.de or www.cartoguide.it.

Travel guide for your handbag
A classic is the handbag-sized travel guide “Lakes of Northern Italy” from the tried and tested Marco Polo series.
Recommended for a first overview of Lake Como and Lake Lugano with helpful background information.
Ideal for a first-time holiday at Lake Como, especially for travelers with limited time. Your all-in-one travel companion: guidebook & insider tips.

Motorcycle tours
Travel guide & insider tips for motorcyclists.
Are you looking for winding roads, good weather, and a motorcycle-friendly environment with stunning views of Lake Como? Then explore the well-maintained roads along the challenging mountain routes near the shores of Lake Como. An ideal area for motorcyclists.
If only it weren’t always so much trouble to plan the tours! The motorcycle guide “Upper Italian Lakes” promises help, offering roadbooks, maps, a travel guide & insider tips.
A clear advantage:
The tours sometimes extend beyond the immediate vicinity of the lakes; the clear roadbooks fit into any tank bag.

Hiking guide
Was there anything else besides the lake? Ah yes, the mountains surrounding Lake Como, with peaks over 2,000 meters high. Sounds strenuous, but it doesn’t have to be if you have the brand-new hiking guide with the most beautiful mountain and hiking tours in your backpack. Published by Zwischenräume, the book isn’t primarily aimed at vacationers with alpine experience, but rather at those who want to discover hiking and nature in the hinterland of Lake Como. It’s a travel guide and insider tips all in one. Just reading it makes you want to set off immediately!
A clear advantage:
A good selection of 20 detailed individual tours with many variations, as well as six detailed stage hikes.

Mountainbike Tours
The mountains around Lake Como are also perfect for exploring by mountain bike. Chestnut forests, forest paths, challenging singletrack trails, and mountain villages virtually untouched by tourism make every tour a treat for all the senses.
The bike guide, featuring over 30 tours including GPS data and descriptions, is a must-have for every mountain biker. One minor caveat: beginners or less experienced riders might find some of the challenging trails too tough, or they might prefer to dismount and push their bikes for a few meters.
